Wakeboating Article
This article written by Karen Tolkkinen, a columnist for the Minnesota Star Tribune, contains video taken by the University of Minnesota's St Anthony Falls Research Lab. The video shows the effects of wakeboat operation in water 9 and 14 feet deep.
All boats, not just wake boats, can have an effect on lake beds and water quality. The results of the second of a 3 part study being done by the University of Minnesota have been released. You can read about the study here:

Fish Stocking!

On October 15, 2024 the CLA stocked 500 pounds of walleye fingerlings into Clitherall Lake, which equals approximately 15,000 fish!

Thank you! to all Clitherall Lake Association members for your generous donations to our fish stocking program. It would not be possible without your financial support!

This lake association stocking is in addition to stocking that is done by the Minnesota DNR. This spring the DNR also stocked 648 pounds of yearling walleyes, equaling about 3200 fish.

We would also like you to know that the DNR completed their targeted walleye survey during the summer of 2024. The survey showed that walleye numbers have increased from about 3 fish per net in 2020 to this summer's result of 5.2 fish per net.
In short, walleye stocking seems to be working!
The September and final AIS, ‘How Well Do You Know Minnesota?’ video has just been released. All 5 of the ‘How Well Do You Know Minnesota?’ videos can be viewed below.

MPR reporter Kirsti Mahron aired a three part series on MPR Morning Edition exploring how suburban style development of Minnesota's lakeshore is impacting water quality and wildlife. The series also looks at solutions and actions shoreline owners can take to reverse these disturbing trends. Lake associations are a big part of the solution.

To launch this great series, MPR News Host Angela Davis had an hour long call in interview with MLR Executive Director, Jeff Forester and Lake Steward Committee Co-Chair for Gull Chain of Lakes Association Dorothy Whitmer about being a Lake Steward.

"According to the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources, we’ve lost about half of the state’s natural shorelines. And researchers say natural shoreline continues to disappear at an alarming rate.

When we lose natural lakeshore, it affects the lakes we love. Mowed shorelines allow seven to nine times more pollutants to enter the lake than one with native plants."

MPR News Host Angela Davis and her guests explore what we can do to prevent shoreline erosion, improve water quality and create more habitat for wildlife.
